Weddings - November 2007


At the last wedding he could celebrate at St. Paul’s Episcopal Church in Riverside, retired minister the Reverend Robert Taylor turned to the bride, Elizabeth Allison Banyard, and exclaimed, “You take my breath away.” The groom, Joseph Thomas Luino, had the very same thoughts! Following the nuptials, a reception was held at Indian Harbor Yacht Club.

The bride, an account executive with Alphagraphics in Montclair, New Jersey, is the daughter of Dr. Richard and Sandra Banyard.

Dr. Banyard is an ophthalmologist with Greenwich Opthalmology. Mrs. Banyard is a science teacher at Greenwich Academy.

The groom, a senior technician in information technology with United Parcel Service in Morristown, New Jersey, is the son of Ronald and Antoinette Luino of Redondo Beach, California, and Oakland, New Jersey. Mr. Luino is vice president, operations and administration, of the Citizens Watch Company in Torrance, California.

The couple honeymooned in the Turks and Caicos, and now live in Oakland, New Jersey.




A fast-moving storm rolled over the Cascade Mountains and on to the Central Oregon high desert in Bend, Oregon, just prior to the wedding ceremony on the Deschutes River of Janette Joy Gyesky and Joel Andrew Comstock. The bride arrived in a deep purple 1944 truck with orange flames. The Reverend Faith Holly Hall officiated. At the end of the ceremony, family and friends formed a circle of love and support and the couple was pronounced husband and wife. With a bluegrass band providing the music, a clown tying balloons for children and a face painter designing butterflies on faces of all ages, the guests enjoyed the beauty of the park and river. A reception followed at the historical Old St. Francis School.

The bride, daughter of Joan and Gene Gyesky of Greenwich, graduated from Greenwich Academy, Miami University and Seattle Midwifery School. She is the founder of the Bend Birth Center.

The groom, son of Cory Comstock of Walpole, Oregon, and Louise Owens of Lebanon, Oregon, graduated from Newport High School. He is the owner of Northwest Builders.

The Bend, Oregon, couple vacationed in the Cascade Mountains for their honeymoon.




Monica Byrne Ferguson met Cameron Scott Murphy on Nantucket through mutual friends. Monica considers herself a hard person to surprise, but when Cameron got down on bended knee at his parents’ house in New Canaan, Monica was caught completely off guard! The Reverend Mark Connolly at St. Mary’s Church performed the wedding ceremony. A reception followed at the Belle Haven Club. The bride carried her baby bonnet as a handkerchief.

The bride, a graduate of Greenwich High School and Georgetown University, holds an MBA from Columbia University. The daughter of Karen and John Ferguson of Greenwich, Mrs. Murphy is an associate in the investment management division of Goldman Sachs.

The groom, son of Suzann and John Murphy of New Canaan, graduated from Deerfield Academy and St. Lawrence University. He is a vice president in stock trading at the Chilton Investment Company.

Following a honeymoon in Anguilla and St. Barth’s, the couple live in New York City.



A Halloween party in Brooklyn after college served as the backdrop for a chance encounter by Ann Patricia Meere and Robert David Mackenzie. Their meeting eventually led to Rob popping the question on a beach outside of Providence, Rhode Island.

The couple married at St. Joseph’s Church in Providence, where the celebrants were the Reverend Raymond Bastia of St. Joseph’s and the Reverend Mark Scarlata, the associate pastor at Stanwich Congregational Church. A reception followed at the Blithewold Mansion on the water.

The bride, daughter of Patricia and John Meere of Malverne, New York, is a graduate of Sacred Heart Academy in Hempstead, New York, and Saint Michael’s College. She is a freelance art buyer in the print advertising field and a graduate student at the Rhode Island School of Design.

The groom, son of Sally and Gordon Mackenzie of Greenwich, is a graduate of Greenwich High School and Middlebury College. He is the chief technical officer for Jera Technology in Providence.

The Providence newlyweds honeymooned in Bermuda. 




Briar Howes Bishop and John Michael Darden met in their senior year at Duke. Fast-forward four years to a proposal on bended knee near the skating rink in front of the White House in Washington, D.C. The Reverend Richard F. Van Wely, the Reverend M. Robert Alves and the Reverend Monsignor Alan F. Detscher officiated at the couple’s wedding at St. Barnabas Episcopal Church. During the ceremony, Briar and John knelt on kneelers used thirty-four years ago at the marriage of her parents. Dinner and dancing followed under a tent at the Riverside Yacht Club. The bride and groom danced to an Elvis impersonator singing “The Wonder of You.”

The bride, daughter of Rinda and William Bishop, graduated from Greenwich Academy, majored in public policy at Duke and is a student at the Columbus School of Law at Catholic University.

The groom, son of Peggy and John Darden of West Hartford, graduated from Delbarton High School in Morristown, New Jersey. He majored in history at Duke and is attending the Darden Business School at the University of Virginia.

Following the cutting of the cake, the couple left by launch in a shower of sparklers.
