There are many skeptics when it comes to the possibility of finding true love on the Internet, but for Melissa van Velsor Mahoney and Christopher John Wirth, it was a match made in heaven. After a month of e-mailing back and forth, they discovered that they had many friends in common from high school. The bride is a graduate of Rye Country Day School, and the groom is a graduate of Brunswick School. The two decided to meet in person at Starbucks. Six months later, Chris proposed at a romantic candlelit dinner.
The Reverend Dr. James B. Brasel officiated at the candlelight service held at the Rye Presbyterian Church. A reception followed at the Apawamis Club, where the Reverend Dr. Joseph bestowed a special blessing upon the bride and groom. He had also married the bride’s parents at the Rye Presbyterian Church thirty years earlier.
Melissa is the daughter of Susan Berndt Mahoney and Daniel Patrick Mahoney of Rye, New York, and Jupiter Island, Florida. A graduate of Middlebury College and Columbia Teachers College, the bride is the assistant director of admissions at Rye Country Day School.
Chris is the son of Suzan and Kenneth Wirth of New Canaan, Connecticut. The Washington College graduate is a partner at First Financial Resources in Greenwich.
Following a honeymoon on Peter Island in the British Virgin Islands, the couple returned to their home in Greenwich.
