Breaking into the world of art collecting can be daunting. Expert advisor Abby Taylor offers sage advice
Though her gallery overlooks Greenwich Avenue, Abby Taylor deals with clients around the globe and has sold to the Musée d’Orsay and the LA County Museum among others. Abby M Taylor Fine Art houses a rotating, investment-quality collection including American and European paintings, sculpture and photography, from nineteenth century to present. It’s a space that gracefully blends classic and contemporary, where a $140,000 Hiram Powers white marble bust lives alongside a 1957 abstract expressionist painting by Nicolas Carone once exhibited at The Whitney. “We try to pick up the best examples of any given artist,” says Taylor, who notes Contemporary and Impressionist and Modern are the hottest sectors of the market right now. Taylor, who grew up surrounded by art—her father was a prominent dealer, part of the Andy Warhol art scene—is also a partner at Graham, the oldest gallery in New York.
