Soul-addicts no longer have to travel into Manhattan to get their dose of Soul with the opening of the SoulCycle studio in Greenwich. This indoor cycling workout has become an obsession, creating a cult-like following of die-hard riders. The signature 45-minute full body workout gets your heart racing, sweat dripping, and your self-confidence level soaring. Motivational instructors shout words of encouragement over the blasting of high-intensity music. Elizabeth Cutler and Julie Rice opened the first SoulCycle studio on the Upper West Side in 2006. After years of success in New York City, SoulCycle is expanding with their new suburban location in Greenwich. Greenwich is the first two-floor space, which includes a gorgeous new studio, the largest retail boutique yet, showers and a SOUL listening bar. It is not only a workout that will kick your butt, but will also clear your mind– good for the body and soul.
Soul Greenwich offers six classes daily, everyday of the week. SoulCycle recommends using bike shoes with LOOK clips, shoe rental is $3 per class. A single class runs at $34, while a 10 class series is $320.

While Pilates has been around since the early 1900s, Kristen LeClair and Tamara Slupchynskyj have brought a new energy to the classic Pilates method with the opening of Core Pilates this past December. With hard wood floors, matching wooden equipment, and a fireplace seating area the studio is warm and inviting– as if you’re working out at home compared to a gym! High ceilings and windows let in beautiful natural light. The duo saw that there was a void in the Greenwich community for a Pilates studio that focused exclusively on the Pilates method and offered a wide variety of programs on the Pilates apparatus. Kristen and Tamara’s relationship began one year ago when Kristen began working as an instructor for Tamara at her sister property, Core Pilates Rye. They began talking about opening a Greenwich location while en route to California for a Pilates workshop and by the time they landed on the West Coast they were already making appointments to look at spaces!
Located in the heart of Greenwich, Core Pilates focuses exclusively on the Pilates method and offers private, duet, trio and semi-private classes all on the Pilates reformer, Cadillac, wunda chair, high/low chair, ladder barrel and step barrels. All sessions are taught by certified instructors that guide the individual through a full body workout tailored to the individual needs of the client. They begin each session asking “what would you like to focus on today?” A session at Core Pilates will tone and stretch while promoting body awareness, good posture and easy, graceful movement. One private session is $120, one duet session is $80 per person, and one group session is $60 per person. To schedule a session call or email Core Pilates Greenwich.

Everyone wants a dancer’s body. Achieve it at Pure Barre, a ballet-based workout that has taken the fitness world by storm. Pure Barre is the safest, and most effective way to lift your seat, tone your thighs, abs, and arms. However, this isn’t the ballet class you took when you were 8– the 55-minute workout combines the best of ballet, Pilates, and weight training to really get you results. Each strength section of the workout is followed by a stretching section to create lean muscle without the bulk. Pure Barre was founded by dancer, choreographer, and fitness guru Carrie Rezabek Dorr in the basement of an office building in 2001. Since then, it has grown into a national fitness trend with thousands of women ditching their sneakers for ballet shoes.
New England native Ashley Allen opened the Greenwich Pure Barre location last December. She loves this workout because it challenges both her fitness level and her mental strength. A one month unlimited package costs $275 while 10 classes goes for $250. There is a new client special, one month for $125. Currently, the studio offers over 30 classes a week. No ballet experience is necessary! Greenwich Pure Barre suggests wearing socks and long pants to keep your body warm while working out.
