February can be a month of freezing temperatures and heavy snowfall. Escape the winter chill with these family-friendly events at the Bruce Museum this month!

Sunday, February 3, 9:00 am. First Sunday Bird Walk at Greenwich Point Park.
Meet at the concession stand. Bring binoculars. Held in collaboration with Bruce Museum, Wild Wings, and Audubon Greenwich. For information, call (Monday  Friday) 203-413-6756.

Wednesday, February 6, 12:30 – 1:15 p.m. Look and See: Dinosaurs.
A program especially designed for children ages 3-5 years and their adult caregivers, who will explore the Museum’s galleries through hands-on experiences, crafts, stories and more. Children will explore the exhibition, Chinasaurs: Dinosaur Discoveries from China, and then create their own balloon-a-saurus! Members $5, non-members $7 per child, per class. Thursday, February 7, 7:00 pm. Lecture Series: Dinosaur Discoveries. The Rise and Alleged Demise of the Dinosaurs.
Lowell Dingus, PhD, Associate Research Curator, Vertebrate Paleontology Division, American Museum of Natural History, and Project Director, Yale Peabody Museum Great Hall, will provide an overview of the evolution of dinosaurs, hypotheses about their extinction (e.g., mammals eating their eggs, meteor impact, volcanism), and finish by posing the question as to whether or not they are really extinct. First in a series of three lectures by leading paleontologists. Additional lectures March 7 and April 4. Free to members; $5 at the door for non-members. Galleries open at 6:00 pm. Friday, February 8, 6:30 pm. Bruce Museum Movie Night. Celebration of Black History Month.
School Daze. Written and directed by Spike Lee, this musical/drama stars Laurence Fishburne, Giancarlo Esposito and Tisha Campbell-Martin. Based in part on Spike Lee's experiences at Atlanta's Morehouse College, Spelman College and Clark Atlanta University, it is a story about fraternity and sorority members clashing with other students at a historically black college during homecoming weekend. It also touches upon issues of real and perceived racism related to skin-tone bias and hair quality within the African-American community. Complimentary refreshments will be served. $20 for each film / $65 for all four (February 8, 13, 20, 27). To purchase tickets in advance, go to brucemuseum.org.

Saturday, February 9. Lure of the Ocean: The Art of Stanley Meltzoff. New art and science exhibition opens featuring approximately 30 paintings by Stanley Meltzoff, the master of portraying fish in their environments from the New Jersey shore to the shallows of the Caribbean and the deep Atlantic waters.

Sunday, February 10, 1:00 – 4:00 pm. Astronomy Day Family Day. Co-sponsored by the Astronomical Society of Greenwich.
Activities and crafts for everyone focus on the stars and planets! STARLAB Planetarium will run continuous shows throughout the day featuring our local night skies. Members of the Astronomical Society will be on hand to show off telescopes and share information about the Bowman Observatory. All activities are inclusive, suitable for children five years and up, and are free with Museum admission.

Tuesday – Friday, February 12, 13, 14, 15, 10:30 am. February School Vacation Workshops: Children’s Story Book Art.
The Museum presents a series of hands on workshops for students in grades 1 – 3, who will explore the original art work in the exhibition Let It Snow: Children’s Story Book Art and then create their own winter illustrations using a variety of techniques.
Tuesday: 3-D Winter Scene Collage
Wednesday: Painting Winter Landscapes
Thursday: Multi-color Scratchboard Printmaking
Friday: Silk-Screen Printing
Each workshop is a complete program, but the four projects are complementary. These inclusive workshops are suitable for students of all abilities. Members $5, non-members $7, per student, per day, includes all materials. For reservations, call 203-869-0376.

Wednesday, February 20, 12:30 – 1:15 pm. Look and See: Let It Snow: Children’s Book Art.

Thursdays, February 21, 28, March 7, 14, 21, 28, April 4, 11, 3:45 – 5:00 pm. New Program! After-School Art Classes: Greenwich Arts Society @ the Bruce Museum.
An eight-session course of art instruction for students ages 6 – 8 years old led by Greenwich Arts Society instructor, Kathie Milligan. Class size is limited. $375 per student, includes all materials. Sunday, February 24, 1:00 – 4:00 pm. Dinosaurs Family Day
Family days provide fun, educational activities for the entire family including: gallery hunt through the exhibition Chinasaurs: Dinosaur Discoveries from China, hands-on craft activities, and at 3:00 p.m. Jim West’s Puppet Production of DINOSAURS! a TheatreWorks USA presentation. Fossil, the Dinosaur detective, mixes fun and facts in this colossal show inspired by everyone's favorite prehistoric creatures. Mozart, Beethoven, Mahler, Stravinsky and Prokofiev provide the rich musical score. All activities are free with Museum admission, and are suitable for people of all ages and abilities.

Admission: $7 for adults, $6 for students up to 22 years, $6 for seniors and free for members and children under 5 years
Individual admission is free on Tuesday.
Free on-site parking is available and the Museum is accessible to individuals with disabilities.
