The Junior League of Greenwich announced the winners of the 2013 Greenwich Youth Film Festival (GYFF) at the second annual event held on Sunday, May 5, at 1:00 p.m. at the Cole Auditorium at Greenwich Library. 17 awards were given out to high school students from Fairfield and Westchester Counties for the first, second and third place winners from each of five genres, the Best Freshman Film and the Grand Prize.

The GYFF event screened the 32 finalist films out of an entry pool of over 100 films. The Festival also featured speakers including film writer and producer, David Levien, and Island Def Jam Music Group president, Steve Bartels, and an award ceremony. In his keynote address, Mr. Levien provided students with movie making tips such as 1) Before your first day on set, “watch” the movie in your head. 2) Always be on time. 3) Don’t move on from a shot if you don’t have it. Mr. Levien also took questions from audience members.

The winners were selected by a top line up of judges including Steve Bartels (Music Video), Blue Sky Studios (Animation), Gretchen Carlson (PSA), Melissa Joan Hart (Creative), Clayton Pecorin (Documentary) and Amanda Seyfried (Best Freshman Film Award). Awards included $1,000 to the Grand Prize winner, $500 to the other four genre winners, $100 for all second place genre winners, $50 for all third place genre winners, and $250 for Best Freshman Film. The Animation winner also was awarded a tour of Blue Sky Studios. The Music Video winner also was awarded a visit to the set of an upcoming Island Def Jam Music Group music video and a private meeting at the company’s headquarters. The Creative Genre winner also was awarded the opportunity to shadow a producer on the set of an upcoming digital comedy web series for Above Average Productions, the digital division of Broadway Video.
