The Lowdown on Lo-Cal

Eating healthy on the go isn't an impossible task. Check out these 5 great options

Cosi

Originally a real café in Paris, this New York Times-recognized restaurant offers gourmet salads, sandwiches and soups, but does not alienate its more mindful eaters. Lower-calorie, lower-fat, and vegetarian versions of menu items are labeled throughout the menu, highlighting the store’s awareness of health as well as deliciousness. Want a hearty sandwich, that won’t go to your waistline? Check it out!

129 West Putnam Ave.

861-2373

Cheesecake Factory

Those fearful of eating out at a restaurant with a dessert in its name, don’t fear. The restaurant’s new “SkinnyLiscious” menu, which offers dishes under 590 calories and cocktails under 150 calories, is to die for! While your kids dig into their traditional entrees, you can feel good about saving the cals without feeling unsatisfied or nibbling on your kids’ fries. This family-friendly but diet-conscious restaurant is well worth the 20-minute drive.

White Plains, NY

Green & Tonic

Fast healthy food seems to be an anomaly these days. Green & Tonic offers the rare opportunity to grab a bite on the run without settling for diet-betraying fast food. The take-out place offers a large assortment of nutrient-rich salads, shakes, greens and vegetarian/vegan options that will leave you cleansed as well as rejuvenated. You may not realize it, but the vibrant colors around the store, unlike the reds and yellows purposefully painted on the walls of fast food joints, will encourage you to eat healthier, too.

7 Strickland Rd.

869-1376

Pinkberry

This adorable, pink-themed store offers all of the crave-curbing sweetness that desserts provide in a much healthier package. Many exotic flavors of the low-cal yogurt are offered, such as Green Tea and Blood Orange. The result is a fun yet light indulgence. Add a fun topping for an extra sweet treat.

369 Greenwich Ave.

863-2000

Kaia Café

We all know how disinheriting it is to waste your efforts at the gym, unable to conquer your cravings once home. It’s one of the worst feelings. Situated at Kaia café, which lies in the middle of Kaia Yoga Studio, you are much more likely to stick to your diet than you would sitting in front of your T.V. The café and juice bar offer all-natural, organic foods, such as delectable smoothies and small, nutritious dishes, all supporting your dedication to staying in shape.
