Celebrating two fitness anniversaries

Figure on Fitness

In the quest to get into shape, some women swear by yoga, others love Pilates, and some prefer to dance their way to a strong, slim body. The Figure Method, developed by classically trained ballet dancer and Lotte Berk instructor Cindy Sites, blends all of these techniques. In hour-long classes, she and her staff help people of all ages sculpt long, lean muscles, improve posture and increase flexibility. Cindy founded the Go Figure studio ten years ago; today, she also operates eight other studios in this area and in Maryland and Arizona. Classes are conducted in a carpeted studio, where participants work at the ballet barre, perform slow-but-challenging stretches and other low-impact exercises that emphasize the overall health of the back. “We’re trying to create strong, healthy, agile bodies,” she says. “Clients will be able to play tennis, play golf, romp around with the kids. The fact that they also wind up with a killer physique is just a byproduct—and we don’t charge extra,” she says with a laugh. Want to try it? The first two classes are complimentary. 141 West Putnam Avenue, 203-625-7616; gofigurestudio.com

Live at Your Peak

Most people would be proud of sticking with a workout routine for a year. At Peak Physique, a number of clients have been exercising with personal trainer and co-owner Dominic Novak. What keeps clients coming back? “We are incredibly focused on results,” says Novak, who notes that the gym, which is one of the largest personal training centers in the Northeast, offers a nurturing environment with motivating trainers as well as special equipment such as a large rock-climbing wall, endurance sleds, Pilates reformers and a Makoto light training machine for improved hand-eye coordination. “Fads come and go but people stay with us because they realize that the training we provide delivers in a careful, professional manner,” says Novak. Clients also see amazing short-term results. Through the boot camp program—a four-week exercise, nutrition and massage therapy plan—some participants have lost twenty pounds in a month. In celebration of twenty years in business, Peak Physique is extending a special deal to new clients: membership for $300 along with a private consultation and complimentary workout for the first 100 people to sign up.
