This year marks the twenty-first-annual Pro Sports Challenge benefitting the Connecticut Department of Mental Retardation and the Lower Fairfield Center Associated Group Homes for adults with Mental Retardation. Entirely volunteer based, the event brings together teams from area businesses to compete in a mini Olympics. Events include obstacle courses, running relay, long jump, tug-of-war, basketball shooting, softball throwing, and sack races!
Feeling Up To The Challenge? Teams are set up in groups of four men and four women. Each team will compete for gold, silver or bronze medals. Awards will also be presented for Most Enthusiastic, Best Dressed and of course the Overall Champion.
Lunch is provided for all who participate and everyone will receive a free goodie bag for their time and effort. Currently, this amazing event has raised $1,600,000 to date. The proceeds have been used for various needs including purchasing two wheelchair vans to transport LFC residents to day programs, six therapeutic tubs with life for non ambulatory clients, sensory stimulation equipment and creating a library and campus theater.
