This past United Nations Day, the United Nations flag was raised alongside the United States flag at the Julian Curtiss School. It was the twenty-third year the school celebrated the anniversary of the creation of the UN. The highlight of the day is the annual Parade of Nations, where students dress in native attire reflecting their cultural heritage and proudly carry the flags of sixty different countries and say “hello” in their country’s respective languages. Ambassador Joseph V. Reed was a guest speaker at the event, Superintendent of Schools Dr. William McKersie was also in attendance along with guest speaker Igor Garafulic, senior adviser for the UN Development Program. Julian Curtiss is a Magnet School of World Languages, with sixty countries and thirty languages represented in its student body. greenwichschools.org
