Once a year nearly 1,000 ladies (and a few gentlemen) put on their chicest pink garb and take over the Hyatt for a most moving benefit, the Breast Cancer Alliance Luncheon and Fashion Show. This year the featured guest speaker was Pat Battle, coanchor for Weekend Today in New York. Her speech was full of laughs and tears, but her message was clear: “Early detection saves lives.” The tent filled with applause as twelve breast cancer survivors took to the runway modeling fashion by event sponsors Mitchells/Richards. Shoe god Manolo Blahnik designed two styles specifically for this year’s benefit that are available exclusively at Richards. Kathy Clark, president of Breast Cancer Alliance, announced that the organization has raised more than $18 million over the past eighteen years. breastcanceralliance.org
