Although Orb won the Kentucky Derby, LaurelHouse was the true winner on this evening. It was a sea of fedoras and big-brimmed hats at the Country Club of Darien as guests sipped mint juleps, watched the race and, most important, supported the Laurel House. The event honored Michael R. Parker as the 2013 Champion for Recovery for his many years of outstanding dedication to Laurel House. Cheryl Palmer, a member of the Board of Directors, and Rey Giallongo, chairman and CEO of First County Bank, cochaired the event. The 250 guests and more than two dozen corporate sponsors and underwriters helped raise $225,000. For more than twenty-five years, Laurel House has provided Resources to Recover for people with mental illness and their families in and around Connecticut. laurelhouse.net
