From the Editor: Time Flies

We can hardly believe that it has been seven years since our first Best of the Gold Coast issue. It’s amazing how things change over time. Consider this: seven years ago google wasn’t a verb; to most of us, Facebook was an actual book college kids received their freshman year; Bernie Madoff was a Wall Street whiz making his clients lots of money; the only thing famous about the Kardashians was their father Robert’s connection to O.J Simpson; cars and phones weren’t quite so “smart.”

Our Best of section has also seen some change—fonts, photo presentation and categories have been tweaked from year to year. And with every issue it seems to gain more steam. It’s funny to think back to the beginning when we called the winners to tell them of the honor and they weren’t exactly sure what they had won. Some were even a little suspicious: “What’s Best of the Gold Coast Connecticut? Do I have to pay for it?” My, how times have changed.

This year nearly 6,000 of you took to the polls and told us about your favorites in 175 categories—restaurants, shops, salons, spas and more. Now there’s no longer an awkward pause on the other end of the phone when we call to inform the winners. Instead it’s “When’s the party? We can’t wait to be there.” They are honored to be recognized as the best in what they do by the people who matter the most—you, their customers.

And speaking of the party, be sure to join us on Wednesday, July 20, at the Stamford Hilton from 6:30 to 9:30 for what always turns out to be a fantastic night (visit greenwichmagazine.com for tickets). Winners from all categories set up booths to show off just what makes them the best. You’ll sample delicious food, dance to some great bands and definitely walk away with the best goody bag of the year. What’s not to love about that?
