An Ounce of Prevention

The U.S. Fund for UNICEF kicked off its Women’s Luncheon Series at L’escale restaurant in the Delamar Hotel. The guest speaker was first-time director and native New Yorker, Maggie Betts, who showed the trailer for her documentary, The Carrier, and spoke about her experiences with United Nations organizations and her motivations for the film. Betts spoke to seventy-five women about her film and the issue of prevention of mother-to-child HIV transmission. UNICEF’s prevention program offers voluntary testing and counseling for pregnant women; antiretroviral medication for HIV-positive mothers and babies and safe deliveries. The cochairmen of the UNICEF Women’s Luncheon Series in Greenwich were Wendy Hill and Victoria Brown.
