From the Editor: Holiday Wishes

Bob Capazzo

It’s that time of year. Shopping, parties and, let’s be honest, stress. We all strive to create the perfect Rockwell holiday. Is the tree big enough? Are the stockings hung with just the right care? Does the dog have enough gifts? We look to make our families happy because that’s what this time of year is all about—bringing joy to those we care about. And so in this issue we introduce you to people whose generosity and devotion illustrate the true spirit of the holidays.

In “A New Kind of Dream Team” we meet Sean Obi and the Eggers family. Though Nigerian-born six-foot-eight Sean may look a little different from the rest of the group, he is as much of an Eggers as those who were born with the name. Sean moved in with the family in 2010 to help nurture his talent on the basketball court. And although he has caught the attention of virtually every major NCAA team, he has gained more than recognition. This soft-spoken, super-polite phenom has gained five people who will forever know him as a brother and a son. Read his inspiring story beginning on page 66.

Having a family member diagnosed with a life-threatening disease is heartbreaking to say the least. But when that person is a child, well, what could be more frightening? In “The Power of a Wish” (page 89) we talk to four families who have pulled through the darkest of times and come out stronger on the other side, thanks in part to the Make-A-Wish Foundation. This amazing group granted each child the wish of a lifetime—from hanging out with the legendary Steve Jobs to visiting the set
of The Office to taking a super-luxe dream vacation. It gave them a respite from hospitals and treatments and the chance to share a magical journey together. What better gift?

These are the kinds of stories that give meaning to the season. All of us here at Moffly Media wish you and yours a truly wonderful holiday. (And we’re pretty sure the dog will be happy with his gifts, too.)
