\n\n Beyond the Screen: Helping Children Grow Up in Today’s Media- Saturated World
\n\n Media\, technology and the marketing of thousands of products l inked to screens are playing an ever-increasing role in children’s lives. This situation is affecting their development\, learning and behavior. I t promotes gender stereotypes\, including violence and war play for boys a nd sexiness and appearance for girls. It can create stress at home and ma ke the job of parenting harder. Diane Levin will explore the powerful inf luence that media\, technology and marketing have on children. She will f ocus on what parents can do to make it better. Levin will offer parents s trategies to strengthen their connections with their children\; promote op timal development\, learning and play\; and counteract gender stereotypes.
\n\n Diane E. Levin\, Ph.D.\, is Professor of Education at Wheelock College in Boston. She has published several books\, including Beyond Remote Control Chil dhood: Working Effectively with Young Children in the Age of Media and Tec hnology and So Sexy So Soon: The New Sexualized Childhood and What Parents Can Do to Protect Their Kids.
